At ProjectKNOW we are passionate about the democratization of information. This may sound lofty but we really think it boils down to the fact that we probably watched to many Saturday morning cartoons and consequently really do believe “knowledge is power”. Or more specifically knowledge has power.
We think knowledge has the power to transform.
Knowledge has the power to transform people. It allows people to make informed decisions and to develop informed opinions. This accrual of information soon begins to affect others not only through one’s actions whether it be by the basic sharing of information or by ones actions.
Through this transmission of information, knowledge can begin to transform societies. By spreading person to person this knowledge changes the way members of a society think and act, thus changing the way they interact with each other. This can have profound effects bringing concepts and arguments into the collective consciousness pushing towards innovation or solutions, propelling society forward.
As societies are pushed forward the effects of this ripple to other societies effecting nations and consequently the world. Yes knowledge has the power to transform the world.
Currently the old means of mass information distribution through newspaper, radio and television are devoted almost exclusively to entertainment and ideologies. This isn’t necessarily through any vast malicious conspiracy to push a viewpoint. It’s merely an effect of the business structure of the various medias combined with human nature. This makes it difficult to gain the full view of an issue. We are not necessarily saying we need to do away with the current system and start from scratch. What we are advocating is augmenting and rethinking how we currently receive and process information.
This is of course, where our optimism re-emerges. We firmly believe that if people have a means to get the information they will act on it. Delivering information and making the average person more capable of evaluating and processing knowledge is what we do. Every project we undertake has to align with this goal.
